We cherish the ideal of an equal and fair environment where all persons can create a better society through their talents, creativity and styles to the point where they can succeed and develop their skills to seize rare opportunities.

Mission

Core Magazine Africa is the fastest E-magazine that connects, interacts, educates, promotes and inspires Africans in Africa and across the world.

We have a rotating roster of columnists because unlike other traditional media outlets, we believe that it is important for our columnists to be first and foremost young professionals, writing and ensuring that our readers get insight from their lives and experiences.  We carry this out by having designated columnists covering, in depth, one topic, and then continuing that conversation month after month. Ultimately, we choose writers who are passionate about their life, have knowledge or experience in the field they cover and can speak to it with a certain amount of authority.

We aim to achieve this by focusing majorly on Literary Arts, Africa Lifestyle and Events. However, within these 3 areas are several departments and programmes:

1. LITERARY SECTION

As a frontier and pioneer of the revolution in the writing industry in Africa, we aim to accept and project quality write-ups irrespective of the class or status of the writer(s) in the society.

• Here we accept and publish creative writings – Poetry, Plays, Movie and television scripts, Fiction (novels, novellas, and short stories), Songs, Speeches,  Memoirs, Personal essays.

• Here, there is also an infusion of both Poetry and Fiction to show poetic prowess.

• We also feature external writers and invite people to write once in a while. This helps us to get a diversity of thoughts – not the patterned writings that our readers will be used to.

• Writing competitions are also organised with a prize to them ( short stories, drama, novels or anthologies or individual poems)

• Here, books are reviewed, analysed and recommended.

• This section also markets and sell Books and Ebooks.

• Writing workshops and seminars are also organised where writers are invited to speak. A few critics too are also invited, hereby representing the reading public.

• Art interpretation – since the literary section is all about creativity and perspective.

To this end, we aim to:

Attract young writers and people of talents in different areas to express themselves in the Magazine.

Disseminate Intelligent and critical reactions on news stories and several issues that dominate Nigeria and Africa at large.

Accept and publish opinions, Essays and encourage Intelligent discussions on societal issues.

2.    FASHION SECTION

This section is all about featuring, promoting and showcasing African Fashion, Prints and Style.

• Here, we feature, interview and promote young African men and women designers.

• We also showcase the best in African inspired style, fashion, beauty, culture and lifestyle.

We believe the fashion trend should not be controlled by the few, but rather be guided by the collective actions of every designer and fashion consumer.

• This is also a platform where members can learn, teach, and improve their sewing skills through sketching, illustration and analysis.

• Readers and subscribers are expected to contribute, share, interact and encourage themselves as often as possible so that they will not only learn to sew but experience self-confidence, self-esteem.

Draft

The Editor

Put simply, magazine editors decide what fills the pages. They oversee all aspects of the creation of the magazine, from signing off ideas for articles and photoshoots in meetings, to making sure all content is accurate and on-brand before being sent to press. The editor has the ultimate responsibility for everything that gets published.

PA to the editor

The editor's PA assists the editor with any day-to-day administrative tasks that need doing, and manages the editor's diary, reminding them of events where necessary. They assist in the smooth-running of the magazine and enable the editor to do their job most efficiently. They're usually the editor's confidante, so often knows more than anyone else on the team!

Print journalist

Being a magazine journalist involves being an ideas machine, thoroughly researching ideas, conducting interviews, writing long and short articles and working closely with sub-editors to keep to strict word counts and deadlines, ensuring everything's in the appropriate tone of the publication.

Digital journalist

This role is much like a print writer, but with a focus on more fast-paced daily content that suits an easily distracted online reader. Digital content is often inspired by the day's breaking news relevant to the reader - so articles need to be timely, accurate and shareable to result in lots of traffic for the magazine's website.

Social media manager

The Social Media manager is responsible for delivering the team's articles directly to the audience on sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. From posting a web article onto the mag's Facebook page to Instagramming the newest cover star, social media helps a magazine interact directly with its audience to keep them loving the brand.

Fashion editor

The fashion editor is responsible for deciding what goes onto the magazine's fashion pages, from product pages to articles to inspirational photo shoots in far-off locations. They keep on top of the top trends, liaise with PR's to find out what products will be on sale when the magazine hits shelves, decide on the styling for shoots, write articles and go to loads of events. It's all about networking, so getting home in time for your fave soap is a rarity in the fashion world!

Beauty editor

The beauty editor keeps on top of all of the upcoming beauty trends, attends loads of events, trials products,  and comes up with fresh article ideas to inspire the reader. They come up with concepts for beauty photo shoots, working with the model, makeup artist and photographer to create the perfect images for the magazine.

Fashion/beauty assistants

Department assistants help the editors create their features or photoshoots in the magazine by assisting on shoots, 'calling in' products or clothes from PR's, keeping note of the credits needed in the magazine for each item (store and price), writing and collating articles, and sending products back to brands. Being super-organised is a must!

Sub-editor

The subs are responsible for ensuring all copy in the magazine  is grammatically and factually correct. They expand or cut features to fit the word counts and work with the art team to make sure the words and images work perfectly together to create the end results.

Art Director

The art director is ultimately responsible for making a magazine look the way it does. Using programmes such as inDesign, they create layouts from scratch, and work with the subeditors and picture editors to make the images and words fit the page perfectly and tie the whole magazine together.

PR

A magazine's in-house PR team are responsible for shouting about anything press-worthy a magazine does. For example. the PR manager will send images of new cover stars or details of any big campaigns the magazine are working on out to national press to hopefully receive media coverage and boost exposure.

Advertising executive

Advertising is a magazine's biggest source of income. The advertising team are responsible for selling pages of the magazine to advertisers. This involves managing relationships with brands wanting to advertise, negotiating the rate to charge, and liaising with the editorial team to create advertorial articles.
